Aesthetic Dentistry
Aesthetic dentistry is the shared name for treatments that change the shade, shape and alignment of teeth toward a natural-looking smile in harmony with the face. It is not a recognised specialty; at Mosdent it covers smile design, the Hollywood Smile and teeth whitening.
Smile Design
Smile design is a planning process: facial proportions, lip line and gum contour are analysed digitally before treatment, and the approved design guides it.
Hollywood Smile
Hollywood Smile is a treatment package in which ten to twenty teeth in the smile line are planned by digital smile design and refaced with veneers or crowns.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening lifts the shade of natural teeth with a peroxide gel, either in one in-office session or with custom trays you use at home.
Aesthetic dentistry names an outcome rather than a recognised clinical specialty (NCRDSCB/ADA specialty register), and at Mosdent it covers three treatments: smile design, the Hollywood Smile package and teeth whitening. If shade is the only concern, whitening is the route and the clinic appointment runs 1-2 days, while a Hollywood Smile covering ten to twenty teeth is scheduled across 5-7 days. If tooth length, shape or alignment has to change, the decision moves to restorative work, and what separates zirconia crowns, laminate veneers and composite bonding is how much tooth structure each one removes.
- 01Smile design is a planning stage, not a restoration. Facial proportions, lip line and gum contour are analysed first, and the approved design fixes which treatments are carried out and in what order. A meta-analysis of 7 studies of AI-assisted digital smile design reported a pooled satisfaction prevalence of 58% (95% CI 30% to 86%), with high heterogeneity and detected publication bias (PubMed 41122427).
- 02Which restoration applies follows from how much tooth structure has to be removed. In gravimetric laboratory measurement, porcelain laminate veneer preparations removed roughly 3% to 30% of coronal tooth structure by weight, against 63% to 72% for complete-coverage crown preparations (PubMed 12070513, typodont teeth).
- 03Whitening acts on natural tooth structure only. At-home and in-office bleaching showed no significant difference in shade guide unit change and the certainty of evidence was rated low (PubMed 40485133), so shade is settled before any crown or veneer plan is quoted, since existing restorations will not follow the new shade.
- 04The Hollywood Smile is the name of a package: ten to twenty restorations, with whitening and gum contouring added where indicated, under one plan. It carries no single comparable unit, so it does not belong in a table against an individual material or technique. Ask for the tooth count and the restoration type on the written quote.
