Booking your first dental consultation in Istanbul is a big step especially if you're travelling from abroad. Whether you're considering dental implants, a Hollywood Smile, or simply want a full dental assessment, knowing exactly what happens during your MosDent first consultation can make the entire experience feel far less daunting.
At MosDent Dental Hospital, we've welcomed patients from the UK, Germany, UAE, Russia, France and beyond since 1992. We understand that walking into a clinic in a foreign country even one as welcoming as Istanbul — comes with questions. This guide is designed to answer every single one of them, step by step.
By the end of this article, you'll know exactly what to bring, what we examine, what technology we use, and what happens after your appointment.
Before we get into the details of your appointment, it's worth understanding why thousands of international patients choose MosDent each year.
MosDent Dental Hospital is one of Istanbul's most established dental institutions, operating continuously since 1992 — now serving patients across three generations. We hold the Turkish Ministry of Health International Health Tourism Authorization Certificate, which means we are formally recognised and regularly inspected for international patient care. This is not a standard accreditation; fewer than a fraction of Turkish clinics carry it.
Our multidisciplinary team covers every area of dentistry under one roof: implantology, aesthetic dentistry, orthodontics, periodontology, endodontics, oral surgery, and paediatric dentistry. Whatever your dental needs, your MosDent Istanbul consultation will be handled by a specialist in that exact field not a generalist.

Your dental consultation Istanbul will be far more productive if you arrive prepared. Here's what we recommend bringing:
Medical documents:
Personal identification:
Notes on your concerns:
If you don't have recent X-rays, don't worry. MosDent's in-house radiology suite includes full 3D CBCT tomography, and we'll take all necessary imaging during your consultation.

From the moment you arrive at our clinic at Naci Kasım Sok. No:2/3, Bahçelievler, Istanbul, you'll be greeted by our patient coordination team. We have multilingual staff who speak English, Arabic, Russian, French, German and Spanish — so language is never a barrier.
Your first consultation at MosDent begins with a brief registration process. Our coordinator will confirm your personal details, note any health conditions, and ask about your primary dental concerns and treatment goals.
If you've been in contact with us prior to your visit via WhatsApp, email or our online form — your coordinator will already have a basic understanding of your needs and will have prepared a preliminary overview for the treating dentist.
Important note for international patients: We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes before your scheduled consultation time. If you're travelling to Istanbul specifically for treatment, our team is happy to advise on nearby accommodation and transportation from your hotel.
Once you're settled, you'll be introduced to the specialist dentist who will be conducting your consultation. At MosDent, consultations are always carried out by the specialist whose area of expertise matches your primary need — not a general practitioner who will then refer you.
The clinical dental examination at MosDent is thorough and methodical. It typically covers:
Visual and tactile assessment:
Periodontal assessment:
Functional assessment:
This is not a quick look-and-leave examination. Our consultations are allocated sufficient time to be genuinely thorough — because a rushed diagnosis leads to inadequate treatment planning.

One of the most important parts of your first consultation at MosDent Istanbul is the imaging stage. In many clinics, a basic panoramic X-ray is taken and that's considered sufficient. At MosDent, we go considerably further.
Depending on your needs, imaging may include:
Panoramic X-ray (OPG): Full-arch overview showing all teeth, roots, sinuses, jaw joints and bone levels. This is standard for every new patient.
Periapical X-rays: Targeted X-rays of specific teeth where more detailed root and bone assessment is required.
3D CBCT Tomography: For patients considering dental implants in Istanbul, All-on-4, All-on-6, or complex surgical procedures, a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scan provides a precise three-dimensional map of your jawbone. This data is essential for:

If your goals include aesthetic improvements — whether that's a Hollywood Smile in Istanbul, veneers, zirconium crowns, or teeth whitening — your consultation will include a dedicated smile design analysis.
This goes well beyond simply looking at your teeth. Our aesthetic evaluation considers:
Facial proportions: The relationship between your facial structure, lip line, tooth length and width, and the visibility of your gums when you smile and speak.
Tooth shape and symmetry: Are your teeth proportionate to your face shape? Are there any asymmetries that could be corrected? What tooth shape — square, oval or tapered — best suits your facial features?
Gum line assessment: A gummy smile, uneven gum line or excessive gum display during smiling can significantly affect the final aesthetic result. Our periodontology team assesses whether pink aesthetic treatments (gum contouring or gingivectomy) are needed as part of your smile design.
Colour matching: Shade selection is done in natural light conditions. We consider your skin tone, eye colour and personal preference to recommend a tooth shade that looks natural and flattering — not artificially white.
Digital Smile Design simulation: Where appropriate, we can produce a digital preview of your proposed smile before any treatment begins. This allows you to visualise your results and make informed decisions with your dentist.

Once the examination, imaging and aesthetic evaluation are complete, your dentist will sit with you to discuss findings and present a personalised dental treatment plan.
This is one of the most important conversations you'll have at MosDent — and we take it seriously. Our treatment planning approach is based on three principles:
Transparency: We explain exactly what we found, why we recommend specific treatments, and what happens if certain conditions are left untreated. We do not use pressure sales tactics or recommend unnecessary procedures.
Prioritisation: Dental needs are often layered. We clearly distinguish between what must be treated now (active infection, structural damage), what should be treated soon, and what can be considered electively for aesthetic improvement.
Your choice: A treatment plan is a recommendation, not an obligation. You are fully entitled to ask questions, request alternatives, take time to consider, or seek a second opinion. We encourage this — informed patients make the best treatment decisions.
Your written treatment plan will include:
Once you've reviewed your treatment plan, your patient coordinator will walk you through the practical logistics:
Cost: MosDent provides fixed-price quotations. The price you are given after your consultation is the price you pay provided your treatment scope does not change. There are no surprise additions for standard materials, basic imaging or follow-up visits within your treatment period.
For patients travelling from abroad, we can advise on how to structure your visit most efficiently. Many treatments including implant placement, temporary crown fitting and smile design preparation — can be scheduled across a single trip of 5–7 days. The final crown or restoration placement typically requires a second visit 3–6 months later.
Payment: We accept multiple payment methods including bank transfer and major credit cards. We do not require full payment upfront — payment schedules are discussed individually.
Timing your trip: If you're a dental tourism patient planning your visit around your treatment, we recommend contacting us before booking flights. Our coordination team can advise on the optimal trip duration based on your specific treatment plan and ensure all appointments are scheduled in advance.

For missing teeth:

Is the first consultation free? Yes. Your initial consultation at MosDent is complimentary. If 3D CBCT tomography is required for detailed implant planning, there may be a nominal imaging fee — your coordinator will confirm this in advance.
How long does the first consultation take? A standard consultation typically takes 45–60 minutes. If a detailed smile design analysis or full-mouth reconstruction planning is required, allow up to 90 minutes.
Can I start treatment on the same day as my consultation? In many cases, yes. Simple treatments such as teeth cleaning, composite bonding, and some extractions can be performed on the same day. For implants, crowns and more extensive procedures, a separate appointment will be scheduled — often the following day if you're visiting from abroad.
Do I need to speak Turkish? Not at all. Our team includes English, Arabic, Russian, French, German and Spanish speaking coordinators. Your consultation, treatment plan discussion and all follow-up communication will be conducted in your preferred language.
What if I'm anxious about dental treatment? We understand dental anxiety is very common. MosDent offers conscious sedation and general anaesthesia options for patients who require them. Please inform your coordinator when booking so we can make the appropriate arrangements.
Can I get a second opinion on a treatment plan I've already received elsewhere? Absolutely. We welcome second-opinion consultations and approach them with the same thoroughness as a first visit. Bring any existing X-rays, scans and documentation from your current provider.
Patients who have visited MosDent from the UK, Switzerland, Australia and the UAE consistently highlight the transparency of the consultation process, the professionalism of the coordination team, and the quality of clinical communication.
