A Hollywood Smile is a commercial name for a treatment package in which the teeth in the smile line are refaced with porcelain laminate veneers or covered with full crowns; it describes an outcome rather than one technique, and at Mosdent it is planned through digital smile design across ten to twenty teeth. No clinical survival data is published under that name; the measured evidence belongs to the components. A meta-analysis of 29 studies reported 96.81% survival for lithium disilicate laminate veneers at 10.4 years (PubMed 39523553), and a meta-analysis of 64 studies reported 98.5% five-year survival for monolithic lithium disilicate single crowns (PubMed 41489982). A PubMed search on the exact phrase returns 7 records, all of them surveys, social media and perception studies, none measuring survival or complications (search run 12 August 2026). Every number quoted for a Hollywood Smile belongs to the restoration type actually used, so the quote has to name that type.
- 02Ceramic laminate veneers pooled 96.81% survival for lithium disilicate, 96.13% for feldspathic porcelain and 93.70% for leucite-reinforced glass-ceramic at 10.4 years across 29 studies, with no survival difference between materials; technical complication rates separated them more clearly, at 6.1% for lithium disilicate against 41.48% for feldspathic (PubMed 39523553).
- 03Zirconia laminate veneers reached 100% survival with no complications in the same meta-analysis, but only at 2.6 years, and no long-term data exists (PubMed 39523553). If a plan offers zirconia veneers, the honest position is that their long-term behaviour has not been measured yet.

Following 580 porcelain veneers in 66 patients for up to 12 years, survival was 99% where the preparation stayed inside enamel and 94% where enamel remained only at the margins, while veneers bonded into dentine were about 10 times more likely to fail (PubMed 23342345).

For ceramic veneers, a meta-analysis of 13 studies with a median follow-up of 9 years reported debonding in 2%, fracture or chipping in 4% and secondary caries in 1% (PubMed 26757327). Where crowns are placed on vital teeth, a review of 20 studies reported clinical and radiographic success of 92% to 98% over 5 to 20 years (PubMed 34516686).
08Can a Hollywood Smile be done without shaving the teeth?+
In some cases. No-prep veneers are ultrathin ceramic laminates bonded without tooth reduction. A systematic review of four randomised trials, covering 126 patients and 612 veneers followed for 2 to 9 years, reported a mean survival of 97% for no-prep veneers against 92% for conventional veneers, with marginal chipping and debonding as their main complications (PubMed 42607000). Whether your teeth suit them is decided at the design stage.
09Is a Hollywood Smile reversible?+
Where teeth are prepared, it is not. Enamel removed for a veneer or a crown does not grow back, so those teeth will always need a restoration, and restorations have a lifespan of their own. Across 318 porcelain veneers followed for up to 20 years, estimated survival was 94.4% after 5 years, 93.5% at 10 years and 82.93% at 20 years (PubMed 22259802).
10How many teeth are done in a Hollywood Smile?+
At Mosdent a Hollywood Smile is planned across ten to twenty teeth, and the number follows how many teeth show when you smile. Smiles differ widely in this. In posed smiles of 157 dental students, teeth were displayed up to the first premolars in 35.7% (PubMed 32411387). The digital design sets the count, so a written quote should list every treated tooth by number.
11Is E-max or zirconia used for a Hollywood Smile?+
Both appear in Hollywood Smile plans, and which one a tooth receives depends on whether it gets a veneer or a full crown. As full crowns, monolithic lithium disilicate (E-max) recorded 98.5% and monolithic zirconia 96.8% five-year survival in a meta-analysis of single crowns (PubMed 41489982). As veneers, zirconia showed 100% survival but only over 2.6 years, with no long-term data available (PubMed 39523553).
12What should I avoid after a Hollywood Smile?+
Avoid biting hard objects with the front teeth and avoid grinding without protection, because fracture or chipping is the most frequent complication of ceramic veneers (PubMed 26757327). Grinding raises the risk sharply. Across 318 porcelain veneers followed for up to 20 years, bruxism carried a 7.7-times greater risk of failure (PubMed 22259802). A night guard and a non-abrasive toothpaste protect the restorations.
