Dr Ömer Faruk Şarkbay is one of the two founders of Mosdent; his clinical work centres on implant surgery and implant-supported treatment planning. He graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry in 1991 and founded Mosdent a year later together with Dt. Hakan Kaval. He completed an MSc in oral implantology at Bezmialem Vakıf University and a PhD in business administration at Istanbul Gelisim University, where he serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Health Management at the Faculty of Health Sciences.
His postgraduate training in his clinical field was the thesis-based MSc programme in oral implantology at the Institute of Health Sciences of Bezmialem Vakıf University (2013-2015). He wrote the thesis in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Ahmet Mihmanlı.
The thesis measured, in the laboratory, the temperature change produced in bone while an implant socket is prepared. The bur is the rotary surgical instrument that opens the socket, and it heats the bone as it cuts; keeping that heating below the critical threshold is one of the basic safety conditions of implant surgery. The study compared burs from five manufacturers at first use and at thirtieth use, with and without irrigation. No significant temperature difference appeared between the brands or with the number of uses, no group reached the critical value of 47 degrees Celsius, and the temperature rise was markedly higher in the system without irrigation. The same work was published in 2025 in the peer-reviewed International Journal of Implant Dentistry (PubMed 39934526).
He completed his PhD in 2021 in the Department of Business Administration at the Graduate Institute of Istanbul Gelisim University. His thesis, supervised by Dr Abdülnaim Temur, examined how lean management affects service quality in healthcare organisations and the people who receive that service. At the same university he teaches health economics, health tourism, marketing management in healthcare institutions and organisational behaviour in healthcare businesses, and supervises master theses; the theses completed under his supervision are recorded at the national thesis centre of the Council of Higher Education.
His peer-reviewed work gathers around quality in health services, employee behaviour and digital transformation. He has written books on lean management, innovation performance and neuropsychological applications in dental treatment, and is one of the editors of a volume on next-generation treatment methods and destinations in dental health tourism (IGI Global, 2026).
In the clinic he puts the ground right first: he does not begin implant surgery before gum disease has been treated and oral hygiene has reached a certain level, he does not propose an implant in place of a tooth that can be saved, and he does not decide on a treatment without an examination and imaging read together. Alongside his role as a founding partner he continues to see patients.
